Field Engineer

Reports to: Field Engineer Team Lead

Goals and Outcomes:

Performs system programming and commissioning to meet the scope of work. The Field Engineer is involved in project implementation phase and takes ownership of the technical performance of a system.

Essential Functions:

  • Insure that systems will perform as specified by Design Engineers
  • Confirm system designs meet the scope of work and needs of the customer
  • Modify system engineering as needed and document redline updates on system drawings
  • Assist in change orders during project installation phase
  • Program audio DSPs and control systems to meet system functionality
  • Diagnose and correct system deficiencies and develop effective solutions
  • Ensure project managers are well informed on status of development effort and programming status of assigned projects
  • Participate in the development, implementation and documentation of control programming standards to include graphical appearance, custom code, and system functionality
  • Ensure all new code adheres to the UNIFIED standards and complies with the UNIFIED “standard templates”
  • Ensure UNIFIED consistently delivers high-quality code to our clients
  • Assist other departments with technical support issues if needed
  • Ensure fabrication and installation efforts adhere to AV best practices
  • Provide clear and concise documentation on any configurations needed for successful implementation (i.e. network configurations, video settings, DSP settings, etc.)
  • Complete system test and acceptance for installations both remotely and onsite
  • Perform R&D tasks both in house and in the field as needed
  • Support all types of technical escalations from the field team and work with other team members as needed on resolutions
  • Ability to be a team player as well as work independently
  • Mentor less experienced technical staff
  • Willingness to learn, exceed customer’s expectations and a maintain a solid work ethic
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective line of communication with other team members
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Field Engineer Team Lead and Director of Engineering


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with Crestron Programming
  • Minimum of Crestron Certified Programmer
  • Ability to program/troubleshoot complex Crestron control systems and touch panel layouts
  • Ability to program divide/combine rooms and other advanced system routing logic
  • Ability to closeout projects through commissioning of system functionality
  • Expert knowledge of loading, trouble shooting, testing and changing code onsite and remotely
  • Expert knowledge of programming various DSP products configurations and control
  • Knowledge of Cisco, Polycom and Lifesize VTC products to include their programming/setup
  • Knowledge of AV system design
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure including setting up LAN’s
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to think and work independently and meet necessary deadlines
  • Ability to interact with field personnel, management and customers
  • Occasional afterhours and/or travel may be required.
